ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Enforce safety procedures; determine safety issues and discuss with the EH&S Manager. Lead and follow safety improvement though-out the facility as needed.
  • Enforce company and plant policies.
  • Create, maintain and ensure standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all functions and makes sure they are followed.
  • Ensure that proper training is provided to new and existing employees in Compressed Yeast and Nutritional departments.
  • Network with the Laboratory staff to monitor Chemistry and Microbiological aspects of product. 
  • Follow-up on issues reported at the Customer level to identify root cause and corresponding corrective actions.
  • Comply with Customer and 3rd party Audits.
  • Maintain balance between inventory production and inventory by overseeing the Compressed Yeast production schedule.
  • Follow-up on issues from supervisors notes or production logs for concerns and/or issues.
  • Change parameters of the process as appropriate.
  • Control and monitor digital data into computer system. Review and establish production ratios and quality results. Responsible for accuracy of weekly and monthly production reports.
  • Drive for continuous improvement to better Safety, Quality, and product cost.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing levels; make required personnel decisions as needed within budget and executive management parameters.
  • Ensure employee development and, when necessary, corrective disciplinary action.
  • Provide appropriate level of motivation and guidance to staff. 
  • Document and coordinate maintenance work orders resolve maintenance concerns, track completion of jobs.
  • Work with Maintenance to develop Capital Projects needed. Participate in planning of equipment.
  • Oversee the process of ordering supplies.  Identify shortfalls as needed.
  • Ensure cleanliness of facility; coordinate the schedule routine and special cleaning of production areas as needed. Conducts daily personal inspection of facility.
  • Serve as member of the Plant HACCP/HARPC team.
  • Special projects as assigned.

DEPUTY

  • The deputies for this position are the Lead CY/Nut Supervisor and the Production Manager.
  • This position serves as a deputy for the following positions: Lead CY/Nut Supervisor and Production Manager.

 SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Manages five subordinate supervisors who supervise a total of ( /-) 35 employees in the CY/NUT Department.  Responsible and accountable for the safety of all assigned personnel. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of these departments.  Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Environmental, Safety, Quality, and Legal Requirements

Understand and follow:

  • Safety: All applicable OSHA Rules and Regulations.
  • Environmental: Universal Waste, Hazardous Waste, SPCC, Title V (Nutritional Particulate).
  • Quality: Quality Management System.

QUALIFICATIONS 

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Three to five years of experience in Packaging or Drying preferred. Strong math, chemistry and microbiology knowledge required. The ability to prioritize, organize and delegate to others while following through to ensure completion of assignments is required. Paperwork demands high level of attention to detail.  Superior communication and “customer” service skills are required. Must have excellent organizational and interpersonal communication skills with proven decision-making ability. Must be familiar with industrial laboratory environment and be able to effectively assimilate large amounts of data.  Computer proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and e-mail is required. Ability to use or create spreadsheets for scheduling, performance tracking/trending, building reports and for budgeting Ability to understand data flow though basic programming. Additional safety, food safety, or production management training is preferred.  Manage multiple projects, priorities and people. Ability to analyze all phases of problems, issues and potential consequences prior to acting. High level of planning and organizational skills. 

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Bachelor of Sciences degree or Production Management required or a minimum of five years of production supervision in food processing manufacturing.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry.  Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Ability to be CPR/First Aid certified required.

Ability to be forklift certified required.

SUMMARY
The primary purpose of this position is to oversee production in the Packaging Departments (Compressed Yeast and Nutritional Yeast Departments). This position will ensure a quality, consistent product, which meets the needs of the customer by managing production processes, safety and staffing of personnel, equipment, and inventories. Daily contact with production staff and management (Plant Manager, Technical Manager, Production Manager, Laboratory staff, Maintenance staff, EH&S Manager, General Services staff, Customer Service Representative, Human Resource staff). Reports directly to the Production Manager.
