3M Ames is a part of the 3M Abrasive Systems Division under the umbrella of our Industrial and Transportation Business. In our Ames facility, we manufacture abrasive (sandpaper) products in thousands of different shapes and sizes, from sheets to discs. Many of the products we produce are used in the woodworking and metal working industries as well as the automotive aftermarket and home improvement industries.

The 3M Ames, IA plant is seeking a Product and Process Engineer to provide technical and project leadership supporting our Brushlon production area. Specific focus will be on the products made for the electronics market for EMMD. This is an exciting and challenging technical position.

Position responsibilities include but are not limited to:

* Evaluating and redesigning our manufacturing, quality, and maintenance systems in the Brushlon area to meet the stringent requirements of the electronics industry.
* Leading process and product understanding efforts utilizing sound statistical techniques to identify and control key product and process characteristics.
* Identifying and implementing improved data collection and process monitoring.
* Providing product support in terms of cost, quality, and service. Responsibilities may include cost reduction projects and capacity expansion.
* Communicating and working closely with R&D, marketing, management and factory personnel.
* Initiating, leading and executing activities within new product introduction system.
* As products move through New Product Introduction process, this person would be responsible for project leadership, manufacturing process development, factory cost/quality input and manufacturing scale-up support.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or higher in Science or Engineering from an accredited university

Preferred Qualifications

* Experience applying statistical tools associated with Lean Six Sigma methodology
* Solid understanding of design of experiments and statistical analysis
* Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
* Experience working with statistical process control (SPC) and / or quality control
* Demonstrated implementation of run to target and process variable release
* Previous development of corrective action plans
* Robust quality philosophy
* Previous plant manufacturing experience
* Knowledge of polyurethane chemistry
* Strong communications skills, oral and written
* Previous experience leading cross functional teams
* Demonstrated experience leading projects that resulted in process improvements and business process redesign
