This position is within Alcoa's North American Rolled Products (NARP) Business Unit. NARP produces the widest variety of aluminum sheet and plate products in the world. Our aluminum is the foundation for many product serving customers in a wide range of industries, including Aerospace, Building and Construction, and Automotive Systems and Distribution.
The mission of North American Rolled Products is to be the world s leading supplier of aluminum sheet and plate products. To achieve this goal, Davenport Works manufacturing processes need to be technologically sustainable, cost effective, and able to be continually improved.
The objective of the Lead Area Manager is to be accountable for results within his/her respective Department and Area in Environment and Safety, Productivity, Customer Delivery, People Development, and Quality using ABS systems such as TPM, Daily Management, Kaizen, 5S etc. The Lead Area Manager will serve as the pinnacle resource of the vertical help chain for a focus department as well as his/her corresponding area. The Lead Area Manager also will be the primary customer/supplier representative for his/her department and area along the respective flow path.
The Lead Area Manager will engage the resources at his/her disposal to meet the focus area objectives set by the Executive Managers in support of the business objectives. These objectives will be achieved without sacrificing a spirit of cooperation with other areas, so as to not detrimentally impact the vitality of Davenport Works.
Along with the day to day responsibilities of a Lead Area Manager for their own shift, the incumbent(s) will be accountable for the day to day activities of up to 8 shifts in a focused area of manufacturing. The incumbent will ensure a consistent implementation and execution of policies and systems in their focused area of responsibility as well as the Department in order to guarantee Customer (internal and external) expectations are met at the lowest cost and always with Safety at the forefront of every activity.
A major responsibility of the incumbent(s) will be the development of the Unit Supervisors behavioral competencies in their focused area. This is realized through technical expertise, guidance, support, coaching, counseling, and leadership in the day-to-day performance of manufacturing activities.
In their area of responsibility, the Lead Area Managers sets expectations, audits performance, counsels Unit Supervisors, trains, acts as a role model, and influences policy and practices to exceed department goals. This includes safety, quality, production, continuous improvement and overall employee morale with the main objective of complete customer satisfaction along with responsible management of the department's spending and assets.
Additionally, Lead Area managers will have responsibility for the development of Process Metallurgical Engineers and Process Engineering personnel. This is realized through technical expertise, guidance, support, coaching, counseling, and leadership in the day-to-day performance of manufacturing activities.
In their area of responsibility, the Lead Area Managers sets expectations, audits performance, counsels Met Engineers and Process Engineers, trains, acts as a role model, and influences policy and practices to exceed department goals. This includes safety, quality, production, continuous improvement and overall employee morale with the main objective of complete customer satisfaction along with responsible management of the department's spending and assets.
The Lead Area Manager will be responsible for all labor allocations in their respective departments. This includes managing manpower needs primarily from an hourly standpoint, but will also crossover to the salary employees. The Lead Area Manager will ensure consistent application of rules and regulations across their respective departments. This may include negotiating local agreements with the union, issuing discipline, and managing short shifts to name a few. The Lead Area Manager will be responsible for coaching and counseling other Area Managers in their respective departments. The Lead Area Manager will chair departmental committees as is necessary. The Lead Area Manager will be accountable for achieving financial goals and managing the departments budgets in all aspects (including cost, production targets, and forecasts, etc.). The Lead Area Manager will be accountable for directing the work of engineers and metallurgical staff to ensure the viability of the department.
The Area Manager will be responsible for coaching and counseling of the Unit Supervisors, production engineers, and any other staff personnel in their area.
Specifics:
Lead department objectives coordination with other Area Managers.
Lead Process Metallurgical and Process Engineers in fulfilling area objectives.
Accountable for Area and Department expenses.
Additional Horizontal help chain for Area Managers.
Provide additional coaching/mentoring to Area Managers in Department.
Setting/reviewing annual development and performance objectives for Unit Supervisors.
Actively participating in the development of the Departmental A3.
Setting, executing, and reporting 30-60-90 day plans in support of the Departmental A3.
Actively participating in the development of the Departmental annual budget.
Ensuring the daily management board is developed, implemented, and maintained so as to facilitate appropriate focus on the departments objectives, performance, and improvements being made.
Basic Qualifications Bachelor's degree in operations management, engineering, or other relevant discipline.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in a manufacturing environment.
Experience directly supervising others.
