Description
Viking Pump, Inc., a Unit of IDEX Corporation based in Cedar Falls, IA, is the world's leading manufacturer of rotary positive displacement pumps. We are a growing organization, seeking qualified individuals for our Aftermarket Applications Engineer opening.
PRIMARY FUNCTION: Provide technical application assistance on identified supplier product to both internal and external sales personnel; exercises initiative, inventiveness and independent judgment in achieving department and section objectives.
TYPICAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conceives and develops designs for new, derived, and sourced products as directed.
Evaluates and selects vendor supplied parts and prepares specifications.
Develops specifications with supplier to ensure compliance to Viking Pump's technical and commercial requirements.
Writes work orders and coordinates work activities of the Product Engineering Laboratory and finalizes report on performed work.
Prepares catalogue specification and technical publications.
Has primary responsibility for application and technical training of aftermarket products.
Review technical development and call attention to aftermarket opportunities, significant new design concepts, new products and materials which may be applicable to Viking Pump.
Provide technical consultation with supplier and Viking Pump application personnel.
Participate in direct sales and troubleshooting calls as required by field sales.
Assist in preparation of published technical documents such as Technical Service Manuals and white papers covering product and process descriptions.
Travel as directed.
Participate in six sigma, lean, and rapid improvement events as required with regards to application process and technical service concerns.
Monitor customer needs, changing market conditions, product deficiencies and market opportunities to make recommendations for new products and supplier accessories.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
BS degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or 4 year Industrial Technology degree.
Technical expertise in the operation of mechanical systems related to pump equipment and application desirable.
OTHER SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position requires up to 20% travel
Must have excellent communications skills (both verbal and written).
Must have good organizational abilities.
Must work well in a team environment. Must maintain internal and external customer relationships.
Must possess good diagnostic/troubleshooting abilities
Must be self motivated.
COMPUTER SKILLS:
Proficient with Microsoft Office products including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook.
WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to move within office and manufacturing complex, write by hand and keyboard, and perform general office functions.
Ability to communicate by speech and hearing via phone and in person.
Visual acuity needed for close detail work and computer use.
General manufacturing, warehouse and office environment.
ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS
Requires frequent contact with Engineering Managers, Technical Customer Service and Support Group, and Product Engineering Lab personnel.
Requires less frequent contact with all other departments.
